ABOUT ME

I'm currently pastor of Martyrs Memorial Free Presbyterian Church, Clerk of Presbytery in the Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster and Professor of Historical Theology at the Whitefield College of the Bible. I spearheaded the evangelistic outreach programme ʻConsider Christʼ that began in 2009 by taking Gospel literature to every home in Northern Ireland. This programme now pursues a strategy of taking the good news of the grace of God in Christ to every county in the South of Ireland.

Personal Profile

BORN ... in Belfast, the old Jubilee Hospital, 50 years ago (so that makes me younger than I look!)

LIVED ... in Lisburn for 22 years, then moved up north to pastor our church in the Maiden City, Londonderry.  I spent 26 enjoyable years there.

FAMILY ... husband of Gillian, who I met and married within a year of arriving in Londonderry; father of Joel, Aaron and Chloe.

BOOKS ... No.1 is the chief of all books, God’s Word to us - the Bible.  Next to it, a whole library of books that help me to properly preach the Bible.  I’ve just finished reading a biography of Edith Cavell in preparation for telling her story at a special service in Martyrs on Sunday evening, 11 October 2015.

FAVOURITE FOOTBALL TEAM ... I’ll need to tiptoe round this one as I’m close to the 'border' between the Green and Red of East Belfast and the Blue of South Belfast, so I’ll play safe and run up the white flag.  Leeds United has been my team since 1970 ... .

OUTSIDE INTERESTS ... I collect Subbuteo (plastic football figures on semi-circular bases) - the kind of things people have in their lofts / roofspace today, gathering dust ... so, if you have any up there, please give me a call ... .

MAIN PURPOSE ... To present the Gospel of Christ to everyone, because I, you, and everyone else needs the forgiveness of sins that He alone provides if we’re ever going to live life to the full on earth and make it to heaven at the end.  No matter how fast paced - and complicated - life has become, Jesus is still the answer.
