Reformation Sunday

We are eagerly anticipating this Lord's Day, 25 October, as we prepare to celebrate Reformation Day.

• The topic for the morning service is The Primacy of Preaching – a vital turning point in the Reformation across Europe. Instead of messages rendered in Latin, or homilies that were hopeless because they were Christless, the Protestant Reformers reinstated to its central position a Bible-based pulpit ministry. If this was essential then (and it certainly was), it is no less essential in our day: the pulpit is rapidly losing its prominence and sermons are being drained of their vital ingredient – the presentation of Christ.

• Our evening service will feature considerable input from several of our young people as they present five key principles from Reformation times. We'll be singing (or at least trying to sing!) some old hymns from the pen of Martin Luther - A Mighty Fortress and Grace, Grace Alone.

The sermon will focus on The Providence of God - a fundamental theme in Reformation times, and one certain to console our hearts today.

The Order of Service is now printed for the evening meeting ... just waiting ... for you to come and use it ... .
