Dr. Brian Green – A Brother Beloved

Dr Brian Green, 23rd January 1936 – 5th March 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Dr Brian Green, a brother beloved in the gospel. Dr Green’s funeral is delayed due to the regulations surrounding a sudden death away from home and is now arranged for 11.30am on Tuesday 28 March at his church, Calvary Free Grace Baptist Church, 258-260 Bedfont Lane, Feltham, TW14 9NU. Interment at 1pm in Bedfont Cemetery, Bedfont Road, Feltham, TW14 8BF. Refreshments will be provided for guests after the service and for all returning from the interment. Dr Brian Green was a close friend of Dr Ian Paisley, our former pastor at Martyrs Memorial and moderator of the Free Presbyterian Church. They first met when Dr Paisley saw a leaflet against ecumenism, produced by Dr Green in 1961, entitled “We Will Not Come In With You”. Dr Green related how Dr Paisley contacted him and invited him over to Belfast. He said that, when he spoke to others about this invitation, he was warned against having anything to do with Dr Paisley, it would ruin his ministry. However, Dr Green ignored this advice and came over to Northern Ireland for the first time in his life. Dr Green has been a faithful friend to the Free Presbyterian Church. In its early days, he came over to take a number of missions throughout the province and had the joy of seeing many saved. He accompanied Dr Paisley to the Vatican where they protested against Dr Ramsey, Archbishop of Canterbury, meeting the Pope to discuss union with Rome and, when Dr Paisley was imprisoned in 1966 for leading a protest to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, Dr Green flew over every week to see him and to produce the Protestant Telegraph for him. Dr Green was the General Secretary of the British Council of Protestant Christian Churches and, in 1987, he and his wife Patricia started the annual High Leigh Bible Conference with Dr and Mrs Paisley, which has been and is a great blessing and encouragement to young and old across the United Kingdom. Until the death of Dr Paisley, Dr Green was the regular and popular guest speaker at the Friday night meeting for young people during the Easter Convention. To this day, many, including the current minister of the Martyrs Memorial Church, Rev. Ian Brown, testify of the challenge, exhortation and blessing they received under his ministry, some hearing and responding to God’s call into full time service. Dr Brian Green was well known internationally, receiving regular invitations to be the guest speaker at fundamentalist conventions in countries abroad, such as America, Lebanon, India, Puerto Rico, Romania, the Philippines. We, at Martyrs, convey our deepest sympathy to his wife Patricia, his son Nigel and his grandchildren James and Hannah and assure them of our prayer support at this sad time and during the days ahead. We have precious memories of Dr Green and are thankful for his encouragement and support over the years and the impact his ministry has made in so many lives. A man wonderfully used of God. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7).
