The Easter Convention is one of the annual highlights in the 'Free Presbyterian Calendar.' All who were privileged to be in attendance this year give thanks to the Lord for His blessing that was so evident among us.
The Friday meeting – now organised as a combined Missionary and Youth Rally – witnessed Martyrs Memorial Church filled, right up to the 'Hen Roost'! It was a particular delight to see so many young people in attendance – and to note their rapt attention as Rev. David Brown, President of the Youth Council, delivered a challenging message.
'Convention Day,' incorporating two meetings on the Monday (3.30pm and 7.00pm), was again very well supported. The traditional 'Word from the Moderator' was preached by the current incumbent of this post, Rev. Thomas Murray (Comber FPC), while the preacher for the evening meeting was Rev. Kenneth Elliott (Portadown FPC).
Running in tandem with both services on the Monday was a Kids Bible Club, overseen by Mr Phil Hartin and an enthusiastic band of young helpers. This year a Chinese Missionary theme was followed with particular focus on the incredible life story of missionary Hudson Taylor. Over 80 children enrolled for the Kids Club – and most of them participated at the end of the Convention meeting on the Monday night.
We praise God for His gracious hand upon us over this weekend and earnestly pray that lasting results will be seen to the benefit of His kingdom on this earth for many years to come.
